Divorce, Matrimonial & Family

It is an unfortunate fact of life that not all marriages are successful.

When a relationship breaks down it is not unusual for one or both parties to seek to dissolve the marriage or civil partnership or obtain a formal decree of judicial separation or enter into a separation agreement.

If there are children of the family under 18 the Court must be satisfied that proper arrangements are being made for their welfare.

A fair division of the family assets, including the matrimonial home, must be worked out. In the majority of cases this is achieved by negotiation between solicitors and agreement between the parties. We emphasize negotiation and agreement rather than conflict and confrontation in the application of the principles of matrimonial law to the special circumstances of each individual case.

We can also advise you on other family matters including domestic violence injunctions, adoptions, child proceedings, civil partnership, cohabitation and pre nuptial agreements.

We also have a separate family mediation department where issues can be resolved between the parties themselves leading to an agreement with the assistance of a qualified family mediator conducted in an impartial and confidential manner and thereby avoid the intervention of the court and the likelihood of expensive and contentious proceedings.
